Santo Antonio Campus

The Santo Antônio Campus, where the Rectory is located, is the oldest UFSJ building, and is part of the listed architectural complex at the historical city of São joão del-Rei.

The first building of this property was the South Pavilion, erected in 1917 by  the religious Franciscan who founded, in 1909, the Santo Antônio Gymnasium, a traditional high school that educated generations of students until 1972.  Later, this school stopped functioning. With the end of this school, the university institution called Municipal Foundation of São João del-Rei, operated in the “Santo Antônio” building until 1987, later on giving rise to UFSJ.

Over time, renewals and installations were carried out to condition the physical space for the functioning of a public university. Among the constructions, the library, which houses a modern amphitheater, and the new buildings of the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department stand out.

At this campus, besides the Rectory, are installed the Dean’s Offices for Administration (Proad), for Undergraduate Education (Proen), for Planning (Pplan), for Student Affairs (Proae), in addition to the Office of People Management and Development (Progp). The undergraduate courses of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, and Mathematics are present at this campus.
