Cultural Center of UFSJ

Since June 1995, the UFSJ has been the owner of the colonial house called Solar da Baronesa, located in Largo do Carmo, in the historic centre of the city of São João del-Rei.
The property underwent different renovations and adjustment construction works and, on April 28th, 2000, the Cultural Centre of UFSJ began its artistic and cultural activities. The building had its facade and internal dependencies recovered in its original structure, aiming for the preservation of the historical heritage. It features large galleries, intended for exhibitions, shows, recitals, and performances. The Cultural Center also has a multimedia room with capacity for 45 people, for the projection of films, documentaries, book launches, lectures, workshops, and other activities.
On the 2nd of September 2006, the Espaço Koellreutter was inaugurated on the second floor of this building. Organised from the important collection of Hans Joachim Koellreuter, donated to UFSJ by the musician eminent’s widow, this interactive space offers a permanent exhibition of the composer's representative works and objects, aimed for musicians, researchers and the general public interested in knowing his work and influence on Brazilian music.
The implementation of the Cultural Center of UFSJ represents a significant gain for the cultural and artistics life of the city and region. Since its opening, the space has been able to systematically develop artistic and cultural activities, in addition to hosting events connected to teaching, research and extension, meeting the demands of the internal and external community.
The Cultural Center of UFSJ is open daily to the public, from 8 AM to 8 PM, including weekends and holidays.
