I had a learning experience with a different culture and with an architecture and urbanism teaching system. In this way, the exchange made me reflect on many important issues that are not in the pedagogical project of the UFSJ course

Upon arrival, I was very well received and throughout the exchange I had the support of the International Coordination and the course coordinators. Living in Mexico, he had the opportunity to share a house with exchange students from Colombia. And also students from Portugal, France, the United States and Argentina.

Colombia is beautiful, people are super friendly love to party and are very affectionate. If I could, I would stay longer, because Colombia is simply enchanting. I didn't know how to speak much Spanish, which is the official language here in Colombia, but it wasn't a barrier, after a short period of time together you start speaking it well.

In the five months that I lived in the city of Guanajuato, I was able to get to know and learn a lot about local and national habits and values, assimilate accurate knowledge of Amerindian and Latino culture.

There are days that are difficult and even boring, you realize that you've created a routine and when you feel that you've really adapted, it's time to say goodbye to your new friends, your new favorite food, your room and the city that you love. welcomes you so well.

Living in another country as a student has always been a drawing, a dream. What I never imagined was that I would go through everything in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. Therefore, doing this exchange was a unique experience - without judgments of "good" or "bad".

Portugal 2017/1

“Having a Portuguese friend is having a friend for life” said a Portuguese friend. I made greatfriends there, through whom I experienced Portuguese culture in depth, passed on important information about theculture, cities and customs.

Regardless of the destination country, the fact of being in contact with a reality/culture different from the one you are used to, changes your way of thinking and acting.

The academic semester went by too fast, but in these 5 months of exchange  I've met incredible people and made friends that I know I will take for the rest of my life, even with thousands of kilometres separating us. I've been to unforgettable places, milenary cities, great parks and environmental preservation areas, and cities with incredible urban interventions.

I had the opportunity to attend subjects that have enhanced my curriculum, due to the fact they are unprecedented reading and of great philosophical depth. The contact with another culture has broadened my vision of the world and especially of Latin America.

The exchange program was the gateway to everything I had never experienced before. It was the first time I travelled by plane and travelled alone, the first time I got to know another country, the first time I would have contact with foreign people who spoke another language.

Personal rediscoveries. Professional. Educational. DISCOVERIES of places. Of friends. Of profession. I thought I was small after all my "nos", as if the selection process, although not very competitive, would trample me at every attempt.

Going to this exchange program was also to make dreams come true: to leave Brazil for the first time, to be the first course student over 68 to do an exchange program in a foreign language country, to learn more about education in other contexts, to experience the Spanish language on a daily basis.

The student exchange was a form of cultural immersion and personal maturation that may not exist when taking a 1-week trip, for example. Besides learning a different language, mobility offers new perspectives of a globalized and multicultural world. 

When we are exchange students, not only do very nice opportunities arise in front of us, but we also feel more courageous and willing to live any and all experiences. 

Spain 2018/1

I could use many words to describe the experience lived in this exchange, but I believe that the most appropriate one would be "necessary". Among the usual 4 years of college, this opportunity fit like a glove, bringing innovations in cultural, educational and professional terms.

My exchange experience was extremely enriching for me, because besides obtaining academic growth I grew as a person, through the continuous learning of living alone, contact with different cultures and customs, and meeting new people in order to expand my vision of the world. 

Engenharia Civil (Lakehead University - ELAP) 2019/2

This exchange brought me together in many ways. In the academic sphere, I was able to experience the experience of a “normal” student, participating in classes among the other native students. I was able to study contents that I have always been interested in within Civil Engineering, which are not offered today at UFSJ.

If you asked me to summarize my mobility experience in a single sentence, it would be: “It changed my life and way of being”. The related program provides an opportunity to manage and deal with the adversities that life has to offer.

Letras UGA 2017/1

Several events were organized so that we could get to know the university and create bonds with people from all over the world; people I took with me throughout the mobility journey and who are still present in my life.

It's a semester, but everything is lived with such intensity and curiosity that the echoes of these small experiences continue to reverberate in corners that we didn't even know about.
