Incoming Exchange Students

The Office of International Affairs at the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ), is pleased to inform you that applications are open for students interested in enrolling in a period of international mobility in our institution.
Below you will find detailed information about the Application Process (year 2023), possible benefits offered by UFSJ (Student Housing, University Restaurants) and other important details. We recommend that you read the notice carefully.

It is important to remember that in relation to applications under Cooperation Agreements, it should always be checked whether there is a previously agreed number of vacancies between the Institutions.

1 – Application Procedures
The student interested in studying at UFSJ should first go to our homepage and check the list of undergraduate courses or graduate programs to see if there are any that are related to their field.
If there is a course or program related to the student's area of interest, the student must contact us by e-mail incoming.assin@ufsj.edu.br communicating his/her intention of doing a mobility period in our institution.

After the first contacts, if the student's interest is confirmed, he/she must send the following documentation:
  • Application Form
  • Copy of Passport or Identification Document
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate
  • School Transcript (in case of undergraduate students)

The other documents (visa, health and travel insurance, CPF) will be requested later.
In order to make the process easier and more efficient, we recommend that before starting the process you consult the mobility officer or international relations office at your home university for any questions you may have.

The deadlines for submission of international student applications are:
First Semester - May 31st
Second Semester - October 15th

The academic semesters at UFSJ are from March to July (1st semester) and August to December (2nd semester).

2. Preparation for International Academic Mobility
Students must arrange their travel according to the dates in the Letter of Acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to purchase their airline tickets, travel and health insurance, and other necessary documents for their trip.
In order to help clarify the most recurring doubts of international students, we recommend that you contact us at incoming.assin@ufsj.edu.br

3. Housing (Student Residence)
- Students should contact Assin to see if there are vacancies available.

4. University Restaurants
Foreign students in international mobility at UFSJ will be entitled to use the institution's University Restaurants, paying R$ 2.75 (two reais and seventy-five cents) per meal. The benefit is exclusive to undergraduate students; however, if the student is a graduate student, but is enrolled in a PLE (Portuguese for Foreigners) course, he or she can enjoy the benefit.

5. PLE (Portuguese for Foreigners) Lessons
The Federal University of São João del-Rei offers Portuguese for Foreigners classes for students in international academic mobility. If the subject is not offered in a certain period, we will inform the interested student.
